This study is among the earliest Natural Progression paintings, created using a photographic reference as a way to begin observing and translating light through paint.
The colors are not exact translations of the original image, as color mixing was never the central focus of the work. Instead, this piece documents an early exploration of observation, light, the emergence of a new painting process and is finished with the special matte black paint that will be used throughout the series going forward.
