Natural Progression: Plant Study (Triptych)

$3,000.00Price

12 × 12 × 1.5 in (each)

Acrylic on canvas

2025

These studies are among the earliest Natural Progression paintings, created using photographs I took of plants while walking through Hollywood.

The colors are not exact translations of the original images, as color mixing has never been central to my practice. Instead, these works document an early exploration of observation, light, and the emergence of a new painting process.

Though painted individually, the works are grouped as a triptych to express a gradient too subtle to fully emerge within a single 12 × 12 inch painting.

These early studies were unable to compress multiple colors into the smaller format, but ultimately led to 12 × 12 inches becoming the standard size for the work moving forward. They remain important paintings of learning and transition within the development of Natural Progression.

This triptych consists of three acrylic paintings on canvas. Both the black and color surfaces carry a sheen.

Please note that the black used in these early studies differs from later Natural Progression works, which use a matte black paint that will remain standard in the series moving forward.
